About the Artist, Robert C. Courtright
Philosophy
| "I find it fascinating,
that with all the colors, shades of color and forms in the universe,
changing from season to season and second to second, there is never a
clash of these elements. From the beginning, man has tried to
immobilize this changing beauty with varying degrees of success.
My attempts at this are simply magnifications of protoplasm to steel or
other media. Many of my abstract forms are not abstract at all, as
the basic morphology is in exact proportion with the object being
portrayed. Most of my ideas stem from what I see with the aid of a
microscope, or in coastal tide pools, and from the plants, animals and
insects in my back yard. For example, I find beauty in the
delicate clusters of eggs carried on the swimmerets of an ocean shrimp
or the intricately sculptured proboscis of an acanthocephalan.
These minute organic forms should not go unnoticed, they are beautiful,
basic to mankind and the universe. No mortal could have ever
conceived them.
So, with these thoughts in mind, I humbly present my work for your pleasure and criticism." Robert C. Courtright has a multi-disciplined
university background. His degrees are in Marine Research Biology,
Polymer Chemistry, Design Engineering and Art. Most members of his
family are artists or educators and this environment, generously spiced
with the keen awareness of natural beauty and the intricate wonders of
life has been the culture from which the artist's expressions
grow. Robert is a very strong advocate for Animal Rights, Catch
& Release Angling and the Environment. Robert's career has
covered the gamut from fishing tackle designer for The Worth Co. and for
world famous angler Bill Dance Robert has developed new polymers and plastic tooling techniques that produce incredible detail of organic objects. Many are currently being used in the production of fishing lures, household items and of course art work. However, with his art, science and law backgrounds, Robert prefers the arts and now spends all of his time in this endeavor. He specializes in creating meaningful work for individuals, interior decorators and architects. Robert's work may be found in professional offices, private and public art collections throughout the U.S.A. and in other countries. He has been the featured artist in many galleries and has received national attention with his polyester casts and sculptures of fish and marine life. Robert is well versed in painting with oil, tempera, polyacrylics and other conventional media, but prefers to do three dimensional work in steel, wood, stoneware and the newer thermosetting resins. Since the computer age, Robert has spent 1000's of hours working with most all major graphic applications and perfected the Transluminated Lithography technique. His Blue Screened Wildlife CD's are a first for animal lovers and graphic artists.
